Hi everyone,

as you surely know from our previous posts, last week we hosted a meeting in the Conference Room of the DEI to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of IEEE, and almost 50 persons were present at the event throughout the whole morning .

Prof. Silvano Donati, Chairman of IEEE Italy Section, was present and opened the day with a review of IEEE’s history in our country: in fact, this year is also the 50th Anniversary of our Section, therefore that was the perfect occasion to learn a little more about this.

After a short presentation of i3Poli held by Vincenzo, Marco and me, other talks were given by Prof. Sergio Pignari, by Prof. Alessandro Ferrero and finally by Prof. Luigi Dadda. Additionally, Luka Lugaric, a former IEEE Region 8 SAC member and now a member of the Professional Development Committee, took part to the celebration and encouraged the students to actively participate to IEEE’s life.

At the end of the meeting – around 1 PM – we held a subscription party, during which five students registered to IEEE and thus also became members of i3Poli, our Student Branch.

Now we are writing a short article on this event to send to our Region, with the hope to be published on the next number of R8News magazine – coming out on October, 2009. If you want to participate on the discussion for this, please go to our mailing list.

At the beginning of the day, S.Donati, Italy Section Chair will speak about “Italy Section Presentation”, then there will be a quick introduction of i3Poli by the Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary and then Luka Lugarić, IEEE Region 8 SAC, will speak about the importance of the IEEE Student Branches. Other talks will be not affected by this change.

We are glad to invite you all at IEEE 125th Anniversary that we will attend on 13th of May at “Sala Seminari” of the DEI building at Politecnico di Milano. IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The IEEE name was originally an acronym for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Today, the organization’s scope of interest has expanded into so many related fields, that it is simply referred to by the letters I-E-E-E (pronounced Eye-triple-E).

I3Poli, as an IEEE Student Branch, organized this day in which 3 mayor authorities of the advancement of technology will spoke about their stories and the opportunities that IEEE offers to Students and GOLD Members (GOLD Members are graduate students, member of IEEE, in the last decade). The event is focused to show what IEEE is, what it offers for professionists and how to join the i3Poli Student Branch.

I3Poli is a student association in Politecnico di Milano to allow cooperations and projects between different kind of students (software engineering, mechanical engineering, telecommunication engineering, chemical enigeering, electrical engineering, etc…) and to make students be part of IEEE network to reach technical documentation (all the IEEE archive) and keep informed about news in the engineering field . We will mainly speak about IEEE 125th Anniversary organizzation.

3. Approval of the coffee break invoice for IEEE 125th.
